We are searching for a Legal Director – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide oversight and management of the Legal Department. To provide legal counsel and guidance in the operations of the Hospital and affiliated entities. To advise hospital executives, management, committees and medical staff in areas of legal and regulatory concern. To select and retain outside counsel, as appropriate, to represent the hospital in legal matters. To actively participate in hospital and medical staff committee assignments. To provide legal counsel relating to contractual agreements entered into by hospital entities. To serve as legal resource to risk manager on-call.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides legal counsel to executives, management, committees and medical staff
  • Collaborates with executives and management in efforts to ensure hospital's operations comply with applicable laws, rules and regulations
  • Provides oversight, direction and support of the Legal Department
  • Manages day-to-day operations of the department
  • Evaluates, on an ongoing basis, the legal needs of the hospital and recommends, as appropriate, adjustments to departmental staffing and/or structure
  • Provides legal counsel relating to contracts entered into by the hospital
  • Ensures agreements entered into adequately protect the hospital's interests
  • Manages, as appropriate, litigation involving hospital entities
  • Ensures coordination between Legal Department and Risk Management Department in any litigation managed within the Legal Department

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
  • License to practice law in the State of Texas (LAW – TX)
  • Seven (7) years of legal experience, including no less than five (5) years of experience working with or for a health care organization
  • Extensive knowledge of health care and business law
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, to utilize a personal computer and its associated applications and to communicate with employees of all levels - both orally and in writing - in a clear and effective manner
