We are searching for a Nurse Practitioner - someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. In this position, you will practice in an advanced role to provide care for obstetrics and/or gynecological patients. This position includes but is not limited to outpatient roles in pre-natal care, well woman, and gynecology services as well as inpatient roles such as rounding or assisting the physicians with deliveries and surgical procedures. The nurse practitioner (NP) works under a delineation of clinical privileges and works collaboratively with other members of the health care team. Practicing under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the NP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures. As an advanced practice nurse, the NP is responsible for education, research, consultation and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Obtains a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients as documented in the patient's medical record
  • Assesses the patient's physical status through the physical examination as documented in the patient's medical record
  • Accurately evaluates patient's responses to interventions and modifies the plan of care demonstrated by written documentation
  • Writes accurate, legible orders that are co-signed by a physician as appropriate, demonstrated in the patient's medical record
  • Utilizes effective and appropriate interviewing skills to elicit information from patient and/or family and collaborates with them in the development of the plan of care
  • Communicates with health care team members the comprehensive assessment, impression, and plan of care
  • Identifies and documents patient/family learning needs, readiness to learn, and level of understanding, incorporating family culture and belief systems on all patients
  • Participates in a minimum of 2 nursing staff education, in-house, and community education programs annually
  • Serves as a resource for interdisciplinary research and incorporates concepts from health care research into clinical applications
  • Maintains knowledge base by reading professional literature and attending staff development and continuing education programs annually
  • Participates in at least one QI aspect of care, which shows improvement, related to patient outcome


  • Master of Science in Nursing
  • Current, valid, unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the state of Texas
  • Current certification – initial certification and maintenance of certification by national certifying bodies recognized by the Board of Nurse Examiners
  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience in the applied specialty
  • A broad knowledge of nursing functions medical terminology, adult learning principles, and how to apply these principles to teaching
  • The ability to operate all types of equipment and perform routine and special procedures used in the daily advanced nursing care of women
  • The ability to work effectively with others, and the ability to demonstrate leadership qualities
  • Specific skills are those referred to in the Delineation of Special Procedures
