We are searching for a Burn Unit Staff Nurse – someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. In this position, you'll assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients/families on the burn unit with minimal supervision.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assesses patients/families systematically using proficient assessment skills
  • Accurately analyzes and interprets data and possesses ability to recognize and identify subtle changes inpatient status
  • Plans and implements a plan of care using sound nursing rationale with measurable goals
  • Evaluates and documents the outcome of goals and modifies plan of care to achieve outcomes
  • Provides a safe environment for patients and families by monitoring of unit
  • Competently performs skills necessary in the care of patients per current policies
  • Documents in accordance with organizational standards
  • Reports/communicates all pertinent information regarding patient status to appropriate interdisciplinary team members
  • Initiates and participates in a discharge planning/case management process and communicates and documents appropriately
  • Performs responsibly and accountably within legal, ethical, professional and institutional parameters
  • Responds confidently, effectively and efficiently in patient/family/unit situations
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes
  • Assesses and documents patient/family learning needs and readiness to learn based on patient diagnosis, physician orders and the nursing plan of care
  • Gives accurate instruction to clients regarding simple diagnostic tests and routine procedures
  • Demonstrates initiative in seeking current data to plan and implement teaching activity applicable to individual patient situations
  • Assists in development of standard teaching materials
  • Evaluates and documents patient/family ability to perform skills by monitoring compliance to instructions or return demonstration and documents findings; modifies teaching as needed based on patient/family response and documents modifications
  • Utilizes community resources to supplement teaching/discharge planning as appropriate
  • Coordinates and documents teaching plan with interdisciplinary health care team
  • Develops and maintains rapport with patient/family which facilitates individual learning
  • Incorporates and documents discharge planning with initial development of plan of care?
  • Provides input into unit orientation/student program and provides input into evaluation process of orientees/students
  • Manages time and resources and maintains flexibility to meet changing needs of the unit and patient population
  • Prioritizes patient care based on patient needs and acuity
  • Classifies/categorizes assigned patient(s) per definition predicts need and assists Level I Staff
  • Follows appropriate procedures for patient charges
  • Promotes cost containment through judicious use of resources?
  • Seeks appropriate resources for assistance in identifying and/or resolving work-related problems
  • Promotes positive group relationships and participates and promoted interdisciplinary health planning; serves as patient/family advocate
  • Informally participates in professional development of peers/unit. Provides feedback related to strengths and weaknesses of unit/staff?
  • Represents the unit on various committees or task forces; attends regularly; participates in committee activities, and communicates outcomes with staff
  • Participates in identifying outcomes with staff and implementing goals which are consistent with our mission and goals
  • Serves as resource for clinical problem solving for Level I staff, auxiliary personnel, students and others
  • Serves as a resource by using knowledge and experience as basis to provide patient care information for patients and families
  • Serves as a facilitator for patient related or patient/family communications
  • Recognizes self-limitation and seeks consultation as indicated with other professionals
  • Participates in PI activities when available
  • Participates within a structured role, such as data collection
  • Evaluates existing practice to identify areas of potential study
  • Serves as a patient/family advocate in relation to research
  • Reads and critiques current research literature and shares information with colleagues and assists in application to clinical practice
  • Identifies personal knowledge deficits and makes effort to expand depth and scope of knowledge base
  • Provides evidence of professional development activities above mandatory Requirements on annual competency review
  • Set written goals consistent with our mission, vision and values which demonstrates professional growth
  • Completes self-assessment of goals prior to annual evaluation
  • Exercises tact, discretion, and courteous behavior in relating to patients, families, ancillary staff, the general public and other health team members
  • Demonstrates patient advocacy in all aspects of care
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills & Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Diploma, associate (ADN), bachelor (BSN) or masters (MSN) in nursing degree with at least one year of recent clinical nursing experience
  • Current RN license in the State of Alabama
  • Current BLS certification
  • Must be able to use medical equipment, patient records, reports, and computer
