Let’s face it – the recruiting industry is rapidly changing right before our eyes. With the infusion of technology, the process should run a bit smoother, right?

Wrong.

It’s the start of 2020, and we are in the new age of our industry. Although innovation is a massive help to us in the recruiting world, we can’t get anywhere in this business without exhibiting these qualities:

1. Efficiency

It’s important to remember that regardless of whether you’re dealing with a company or a job seeker, there is more than one avenue they’re taking to meet their ultimate end goal. It is your job to be fast, accurate, and responsive.

2. Communication

We all hate to be the bearer of bad news, but to be a successful recruiter, the floodgates of communication must be open no matter the reason. Whether you have good, bad, or no news at all, be sure to update your client. The goal is to create a relationship that renders you as an efficient and reliable recruiter. Being labeled as such could turn into more business!

3. Connect

Since you’re working in the business of human capital, it’s imperative that you are a “people” person. Being a social butterfly of sorts will allow you to connect with others. Building strong relationships and turning them into fruitful results is a skill you should always have under your belt. Attending conferences and scouring through LinkedIn are good starts!

4. Social Media

Recruiting in this new technological age is different. Stretch your social media muscles. It’s no secret that the way into the new generations’ hearts is through their phones. Be sure to utilize your access to social media to get your message out, because that’s how new age job seekers are finding their opportunities.

  • 79% of job applicants use social media in their job search efforts
  • 84% of organizations are using social media to fill open positions
  • 73% of those using the social recruitment process were hired successfully
  • 31% of those using the social recruitment process saw an increase in employee referrals

The numbers don’t lie!

5. Persistence

In the recruiting industry, being a successful recruiter means being a go-getter and understanding how to be persistent with your clients without being a pest. The goal is to render successful results without coming off as aggressive. In doing so it is important that you are communicative, stern, and responsive with your client.  Be sure that every time you are in contact with your client, you are both knowledgeable and honest in your response.

With the use of this set of skills, you’ll definitely be headed in the right direction. In the end, it’s all about building a brand and reputation for yourself as a recruiter. You will open more doors for lucrative opportunities in the future.
